Only 20% reported consistent figures with past seasons. The most sought-after regions were Puglia, Tuscany, and Calabria. Italian guests accounted for about 48%, with the remainder coming mainly from Central and Northern Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Poland, Belarus, Austria, France, and the Netherlands, as well as long-distance locations like Israel, the USA, Canada, and Australia. Investments are being made to enhance service quality and quantity, with a focus on experiential tourism and cycling tourism, supported by a partnership with the Italian Cycling Federation.

Booking vede rallentare la crescita delle notti prenotate durante l’estate

  • Elisa DAgostino
  • 5 Agosto 2024
📌 Booking Holdings, previously known as Priceline Group, predicted in 2014 a deceleration in room night growth from 29% in Q2. A decade later, in Q2 2023, room night growth slowed to 7% from 9% in Q1, with a further slow to 3-5% expected in Q3. The average daily rates also dropped in Q2, influenced by room night growth in Asia. CEO Glenn Fogel notes a moderation in booking windows and market growth in Europe as factors. The company's stock fell over 5% post-market trading. Despite this, Booking Holdings' net income rose 18% to $1.5 billion on revenues of $5.9 billion, up 7%. Their alternative accommodations list grew by 11% year-over-year to 7.8 million in Q2, with the short-term rental business now over two-thirds the size of Airbnb. Direct bookings account for over 60% of total bookings, and social media marketing investments have increased due to attractive ROI.

🏖️ Calabria, alongside Puglia and Trentino Alto Adige, ranks as Italy's most appealing tourist region, according to the recent Demoskopica report. By the end of August, tourist arrivals in Calabria are expected to increase by 4% compared to last year, potentially boosted by more low-cost airline flights to the region's three airports. The unique combination of sea, mountains, and culture is particularly attractive to young travelers. However, concerns arise with inflation rates in the tourism sector rising by 3.6% annually and 1.2% monthly.
