Italy Family Hotels: numeri positivi per l’estate 2024

📈 Alberto Gnoli of Hospitality Marketing credits the success of the Italy Family Hotels' positive summer to targeting and flexibly meeting specific family demands. A survey by Area 38 showed an average occupancy of 82.1% for June – August, peaking at 92% in July and 93.3% in August for seaside hotels, and 77.2% and 86.9% for mountain hotels. 54% of hoteliers noted a preference for all-inclusive packages, while 41% saw a demand for services catering to children aged 0-2 years during summer 2024.

🏖 Nearly 70 million tourism workers lost jobs during the pandemic, with women and youth hit hardest. By 2022, the sector employed 42 million women (-13% from 2019's 48.4 million) and over 16 million youth (-15% from 19 million in 2019). In 2023, the travel and tourism sector's contribution to GDP increased by 29.1% over pre-Covid levels, exceeding the global average by 4.1%. Yet, women and youth are more likely to be in informal, part-time, or low-wage roles, lacking security or growth potential.

Most Italians eye Central Southern Europe for holidays, with Italy retaining appeal. Over 55s prefer travel agencies for booking vacations.

The U.S., China, Japan, and Germany will remain top travel markets, with the UK surpassing France by 2025. In 2023, gross bookings saw a +24% increase, with $1.5 trillion spent on various travel services.

🏡 The Le Méridien Visconti Rome celebrates 50 years with two new suites - the 80 sqm Grand Suite and the 70 sqm Top Suite, recently added alongside the Terrace Suite on the hotel's 7th floor. Interior designer Harry Gregory designed the suites, inspired by '50s and '60s iconic items like the Fiat 500 and Flos Arco lamp. Both suites feature a large green terrace with a jacuzzi, solarium, and private bar, offering scenic city views extending to St. Peter's Dome. The 7th floor also boasts the newly opened Paparazzo Bar & Rooftop, reflecting the '60s "Dolce Vita" era, and is available for exclusive events.

Vacanze ‘cashless’ in Italia, aumentano i pagamenti digitali del 24,5%

💳 In Italy, summer 2024 saw a 24.5% increase in cashless transactions in tourism, with only 15% from international cards, a 10% decrease from the previous year. Top cashless spenders were from the USA (13.9%), UK (10.3%), and France (10.2%), spending more on average than Italians. Nearly 1 in 10 international card payments exceeded 100 euros. Transactions concentrated in Venice (41.8%), Siena (38.6%), and La Spezia (34.2%). Polish tourists had a 40% increase in digital payments, while German and Swedish payments rose by 18% and 16%, respectively. Foreigners tend to spend more, with a notable 3.8% of international transactions over 200 euros, compared to 1% by Italians.

📍 From the start of 2024, Jamaica's tourism sector welcomed approximately 3 million visitors, earning around $3 billion. Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett highlighted these figures during Tourism Awareness Week 2024. The island recorded 4.29 million visitors and revenues of $4.38 billion in 2023. Despite challenges like US travel advisories and Hurricane Beryl, current figures slightly outpace last year's, keeping on track for the 2025 goal of 5 million visitors and $5 billion in earnings.
