From 2008 to 2019, Indian tourist numbers grew from 160,000 to 593,000 annually; despite COVID-19 setbacks, 2023 witnessed a peak, with a 29% hike in early 2024 accommodation searches. Preferences include Rome, Milan, Venice, Capri, especially in spring, with bookings made 120-130 days ahead. Tax Free shopping by Indian tourists is niche, contributing to 1.46% of the total in 2023. Millennials account for 46% of shoppers, with a 223% recovery in Tax Free spending in Q1 2024 compared to 2019. Luxury purchases formed 76% of 2023 buys, with an average spend of 1,122 euros, and Milano Malpensa is the main Italian hub.
