🚢 Fincantieri is in talks with Carnival Corporation for six new ships, with two options, starting from 2029, potentially built in Genova Sestri Ponente and/or Marghera, valued at about €8 billion. In the first half of 2024, Fincantieri's profits rose by 16% to €214 million, with revenues stable at €3.68 billion. The company secured orders for medium and large capacity ships, including a deal in April with Norwegian Cruise Line for 6 ships for Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises, plus a letter of intent for 4 jumbo ships for NCL.

Agosto: 17,5 milioni di italiani in viaggio. La scelta è il mare

🏖️ In August, 17.5 million Italians are traveling, 1 million more than last year, according to Confcommercio. Long vacations of at least 7 days are on the rise, with a total Italian family holiday budget of €15.5 billion, up €1.5 billion from 2023. Average spending is €1,040 per person, a 10% increase from €945 last year. Six out of ten Italians choose hotels (22%) or camping and holiday villages, with 18% staying with friends or relatives. Three in ten prefer the sea, 12% the mountains, and over 70% choose domestic destinations, 19% Europe, and 8% outside Europe. Popular regions include Sicily, Puglia, Calabria, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Sardinia, and Trentino Alto Adige. Abroad, Greece, Spain, and France lead the preferences.

United e Delta Di nuovo sospesi i voli per Tel Aviv

✈ In response to heightened tensions in the Middle East, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines have temporarily suspended flights to Tel Aviv, impacting air travel between the United States and Israel. Delta's suspension starts August 2nd, affecting the Tel Aviv-New York JFK route. Currently, only El Al maintains direct flight service between the two countries. United Airlines will evaluate further actions to potentially resume the route.

📈 ACI Europe reports a +9% growth in the first half of 2024 compared to pre-COVID times, with a +10% increase in the first quarter and an 8% increase in the second. Passenger volume up by +0.4%. Poland, Greece, Malta, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Croatia see over +13.6% growth, driven by low-cost airlines. Negative growth beyond -20% in Finland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Sweden due to Russian airspace closure. Uzbekistan (+202%), Armenia (+78%), Kazakhstan (+67%), and Tirana (+243%) thrive. London Heathrow, Istanbul, Paris, Amsterdam, and Madrid top five European airports by passenger numbers. Italy's Rome Fiumicino shows significant growth among large European hubs, Milan Bergamo and Catania rank high in their categories, Trapani records +125%, and Perugia +130% growth compared to 2019.

Flight numbers also rose by 4.97% from July 2023. Top international destinations were Paris, Munich, and London, and Rome, Milan Malpensa, and Linate domestically. Gesap president Salvatore Burrafato highlighted the milestone as a rewarding result of managerial choices, aiming for sustained growth.

🏖 Costa Azzurra, identified by France Tourisme's Osservatorio del Turismo as a top summer destination, maintains a strong hotel occupation rate of 81% in June 2024, equal to 2023 levels. Boosted by events such as Cannes' Lyons and Nice's Ironman 70.3, the region sees a 14% increase in Revenue per Available Room (RevPar). Airline bookings for July-September 2024 are up 17%, with North America leading the surge at 35% growth. Domestic airline bookings, excluding low-cost carriers, fell by 17%. Early July hotel occupancy on the coast hit 85%, up 4 points from 2023, with Nizza hotels full during the Tour de France's first weekend, reaching 90% occupancy on July 19. Overall, summer occupancy is expected to be around 85%, slightly higher than in 2023.

🏖 Mare is the top summer vacation choice for Italians with 66.8% preferring cities of art and 51.9% mountains, while hills (49.3%) and lakes (42.6%) are less chosen. Research by La Base Balneare, Donnedamare, and Assobalneari Italia, coordinated by Daniele Marini from the University of Padova, finds that 74.4% of beachgoers opt for bathing establishments. Average stay is around 13 days, but 43.4% stay under 6 days. Cleanliness (88.7%), theft protection (86.6%), and sea safety (84.5%) are key priorities. Accessibility for the disabled is important for 67.7%. 73% are satisfied with facilities, and 69.9% with beach cleanliness. Two-thirds believe these establishments support tourism growth and local economy. For every euro spent at the beach, €2.36 is generated in other sectors. 65.3% acknowledge their role in marine heritage and environmental sustainability, and 62.8% see coastal management as a public service.
