Managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and politically by Palazzo Chigi, the revised masterplan by Adr aims for a 100 million passenger capacity yearly, with an expansion of about 260 hectares, 151 of which are in a reserve. The fourth runway will be parallel to the existing third runway, with the first runway shortened by 400 meters. Additional enhancements include a €250 million road infrastructure upgrade by Anas, part of the overall €4.5-5 billion airport expansion budget. The project, including the fourth runway, requires three years to complete, with an 18-24 month approval process involving Enac, environmental impact assessment, and urban conformity for expropriations.
