The project by FH55 Hotels to reduce food waste, started in November 2023, provides breakfast surplus from their hotel to the Institute of the Little Sisters of the Poor in Florence, benefiting over 90 residents and staff.

💸 Skift Research predicts direct digital bookings to surpass OTAs by 2030, with direct bookings rising from 25% in 2024 to 42% in 2030, while OTA usage is expected to drop from 25% to 13%. Hospitality expert Max Starkov contends that hotels, especially independents, face systemic underinvestment in technology (just 2.6% of room revenue) and marketing (less than 2.5% of room revenue), which is dwarfed by OTA investments (Expedia 15%, Booking.com 36% and 54% in promotions). For direct bookings to compete, hotels must significantly increase funding in these areas, exceeding the average 7.7% revenue investment in marketing by other sectors.
