Trademark Italia/Italian Hotel Monitor: nel terzo trimestre del 2024 negli alberghi italiani cresce l’occupazione e il prezzo medio camera

🏠 Italian Hotel Monitor data for Q3 2024 shows the Italian tourism industry recording positive outcomes, with room occupation increasing from 78.3% to 78.7%, and average room prices jumping from 140.15€ to 151.47€ (+8.1%). The rise is attributed to a resurgence in business tourism and a surge in international visitors, notably from the U.S. Luxury and premium accommodations are in high demand among these tourists. Comparing with 2023, the upscale (4-star) sector saw ADR rise by +6.7% and R.O. by +0.6 points, while luxury (5-star) enjoyed ADR growth of +8.2% and R.O. increase of +1.4 points. The midscale (3-star) segment also noted nearly a ten-point price hike (+9.7%) and a +0.2 point R.O. uplift. Among 39 monitored cities, 32 surpassed the 70% room occupation rate, with Rimini leading at 89.3%. Venice remains the most expensive city with an average room price of 262.92€, a +6.9% increase from the previous year.

Fiumicino led with over an 18% surge, while Malpensa stayed below 10%. The first nine months of 2024 saw passenger movement nearing 170 million, marking an increase of over 11 percentage points across the peninsula.

Top cities for hotel stays are Rome (48.4%), Milan, Florence, and Venice. Italians will spend an average of 843 euros on Christmas travel and 525 euros on entertainment and experiences. ????

Solo travel is on the rise, with 30% of men and 23% of women globally, and 22% of male vs. 18% female travelers in Italy considering solo trips in 2025. Over 25% of Italian respondents plan to spend more than €2,000 on international travel. Language barriers and unfamiliar transport companies stress 29% of travelers globally, rising to 36% among Italians. In 2025, 44% will rely on AI for travel planning, up from 27% in 2024. The preference for high season travel in June-August remains strong, with 76% favoring it in 2025. 42% of Omio's summer bookings are for these months. Italian travelers' use of AI for destination suggestions could rise to 32% in 2025, with 45% planning to use AI for travel booking, an increase from 24% in 2024. Sustainable travel is important to 68% of Italians, with Gen Z at 71%, aligning with global trends towards minimizing negative impacts.

BBF (Bello e Ben Fatto) goods span leisure nautical, food, jewelry, fashion, and furniture sectors, embodying Italian excellence. BBF products amount to 711 categories, worth €161.3 billion, 26.2% of Italian exports, with growth potential valued at €174.5 billion. Italian exports to ASEAN, including Singapore, with a potential €1 billion BBF growth, reached nearly €3 billion in 2023, a 17% increase. The Italian leisure boating industry hit a record €4 billion in exports in 2023, up 15.9% from 2022, with a global leadership in superyacht production, holding 51% of orders.

🏛 On October 31, at the Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism in Paestum, a roundtable on "European funds for the enhancement of archaeological heritage and cultural tourism" was held, organized by the European Parliament Office Italy and the European Commission Representation in Italy with Civita Association. The meeting highlighted the European Union's various funding programs for Italy and the €4.2 billion from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) allocated for cultural initiatives, of which €500 million is for digitization and €300 million for parks and historical gardens. To date, 30% of these resources have been spent, primarily by local authorities, with challenges in training implementing subjects. Discussion included decentralized tourism and destagionalization strategies, emphasizing the need for shared and respectful promotion and planning.
