Sugar Tax: attesa oggi la decisione del Governo. I commenti degli addetti ai lavori
💰 ASSOBIBE, representing non-alcoholic beverage companies in Italy, is awaiting the government's decision on delaying the Sugar Tax implementation, proposed to increase beverage costs by 28% per liter, affecting drinks like chinotto, cedrata, gassosa, and non-alcoholic aperitifs. The tax is set to come into effect in less than four months, with government intervention initially promised at the start of 2025. Industry representatives, including ASSOBIBE President Giangiacomo Pierini, Michel Beneventi of Sanpellegrino, and Rosario Caputo of IBG SpA, express concerns over the tax's negative impact on businesses, workers, and local communities. Paolo Mascarino, President of Federalimentare, criticizes the tax, highlighting Italy's low consumption of sweetened beverages at 54 liters per person annually, which is about 45% lower than the European average of 98 liters. The tax is expected to debut in July 2025, amidst debates over its health benefits and economic rationale.
