Alla scoperta dei Corpse Reviver: storia, curiosità, abbinamenti

  • Tony Loeb
  • 29 Gennaio 2025
🍸 Corpse Reviver cocktails, originating in the mid-1800s, were intended as hangover cures. First mentioned in 1861 by "Punch" and first recipe in "The Gentleman’s Table Guide" in 1871, combining brandy and absinthe. The Criterion Reviver variant emerged in London in 1875. Harry Craddock's "The Savoy Cocktail Book" in 1930 popularized Corpse Reviver No. 1 & No. 2, the latter consisting of 30 ml each of gin, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc, and lime juice plus a drop of absinthe. Variations followed, including champagne-based and five versions in the "Café Royal Cocktail Book" 1937. Corpse Reviver No. 3 appeared in 1956's "Official Mixer’s Manual". These cocktails have featured in films like "The Thin Man" (1934), "Skyfall" (2012), and the TV series "Mad Men". Food pairings for Corpse Reviver No. 2 include oysters, seafood, and smoked salmon.

🍷 Vito Intini, President of ONAV (Organizzazione Nazionale Assaggiatori di Vino), emphasizes the importance of drinking education in response to the new rules of the Road Code, suggesting that wine lovers learn without risking their license. ONAV promotes responsible drinking practices, such as scheduling early thematic evenings, serving less wine, and not concentrating tastings at the end of the session. ONAV's sections are equipped with breathalyzers for safety, and it advises organizing wine events in locations accessible by public transport or with shuttle services, and recommending moderation and shared driving responsibilities.

Intervista a Stefano Rossomando, Head Of Trade di Oeno Group

  • Tony Loeb
  • 29 Gennaio 2025
🍷 Oeno Group, founded in 2015, is a leading international network in fine wine investments, including whisky. Interviewed Stefano Rossomando, Head Of Trade at Oeno, discussed the market's current state and criteria for selecting new wineries and labels. Despite a 37% market drop in wine during the 2008 financial crisis, with high-quality wines selling at 40% of their original price, the market rebounded by 2011, showing a 90% increase from the 2008 low. Italy, holding 10% of the global market, with exceptional wines from Tuscany and Piedmont, provides investment and consumption opportunities. Emerging regions like Etna and Irpinia are gaining attention, as are natural wines that reflect their territory with low intervention. In England, consumption trends mix traditional with modern preferences, including fresh, light wines and consistent demand for Champagne. Oeno enhances the wine experience through educational courses, masterclasses, events, and exclusive producer visits.
