  • 8 Aprile 2025
🍺 Birra Messina showcases two unique installations during Milan Design Week, April 7-13, 2025, to inspire wonder among visitors. Lo studio FIVI: la sostenibilità economico&finanziaria delle aziende

  • Tony Loeb
  • 8 Aprile 2025
🍷 Italian independent vintners, primarily family-run, medium-small businesses, focus on quality wine production and rural Italian landscape preservation, as outlined in 2024 by Nomisma – Wine Monitor and FIVI's study. Concerns regarding profitability and rising costs emerged from the research, prompting a focus on economic sustainability, and factors influencing revenue. A better sales trend was noted for businesses with higher direct-to-consumer and Horeca sales, as well as for those engaging in enotourism and marketing efforts. Export, particularly to the U.S., is a significant revenue driver, with 45% of companies reporting sustained or moderate revenue growth having a high export percentage. Over 70% of FIVI’s 1,800 members export, and 23% plan to do so. Rita Babini, FIVI president, calls for more accessible European promotional funds for small-medium businesses and support for enotourism. FIVI, established in 2008, has over 1,700 associated producers, covering over 17,000 hectares of vineyards.

Luce UV&C contro l’oidio della vite: la svolta sostenibile dai laboratori della Washington State University

  • Tony Loeb
  • 8 Aprile 2025
🌼 Washington State University researchers Michelle Moyer and Alexa McDaniel, from 2020 to 2022, studied the use of UV-C light as a non-chemical alternative to control downy mildew ("oidio") in vineyards, particularly in Chardonnay grapes. The nighttime applications exploited the pathogen's weakness in DNA repair during the night, proving effective, especially early in the vegetative season. The method could reduce fungicide use, chemical residues, biodiversity impact, and complement integrated pest management (IPM) techniques without compromising grape quality, advancing towards eco-friendlier viticulture.
