🍻 A study by the University of Cambridge, led by Professor Theresa Marteau, found that serving beer in smaller glasses reduced average daily beer, lager, and cider sales by 9.7% across 12 English pubs over four weeks. Wine sales, however, increased by 7.2%, with one pub accounting for half of this rise. Despite the reduction in beer consumption, consumers shifted preferences to other alcoholic beverages, such as wine, indicating a compensatory effect. The research, published in PLOS Medicine, highlights the need for integrated approaches to alcohol control policies, acknowledging alcohol's role in 3 million annual global deaths and its link to diseases like heart disease and various cancers.

Tassa di soggiorno estesa a tutti i Comuni Italiani, su base volontaria

🏨 In a meeting on September 12, the Italian Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Economy, and the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI) decided to apply a voluntary tourist tax across all Italian municipalities to simplify and standardize the tax nationwide. The tax will be aimed also at urban decor and safety, and a technical committee will be established to study price bands, making it proportional to room cost per person. Roberto Pella, the president of ANCI, appreciated the tax’s extension to all municipalities, highlighting the need for simplification and hotelier protection. However, hospitality industry organizations expressed skepticism, fearing increased fiscal pressure, especially in non-tourist towns, and requested a revision of existing regulations, a reasonable tax cap, and transparency in revenue usage.

Ernst Knam e Frau Knam tornano nella piazza de I Fatti Vostri

Airing Monday to Friday, 11:00-13:00, they feature on "L'angolo della 'Dolceria'" every Thursday. The show, curated by Michele Guardì, offers simple, replicable recipes and kitchen tips. Knam, born in 1963, opened "L'Antica Arte del Dolce" in 1992, now known as Pasticceria Ernst Knam. He's authored books and has been on TV since 2012. Frau Knam joined him on "Bake Off Italia" and has her own pasticceria projects.

Nuovo studio Fairtrade: la certificazione come strumento per la tutela delle foreste

🌱 A study commissioned by Fairtrade revealed that cocoa and coffee cooperatives with Fairtrade certification are motivated to protect forests in compliance with the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), effective by year-end. The research, titled "Effect of Fairtrade on Forest Protection and Deforestation Prevention," conducted from April 2023 to May 2024 by KIT, The Chain Collaborative, and Expressing Origin, involved over 60 document analyses, stakeholder interviews, and fieldwork in Colombia, Honduras, and Côte d'Ivoire. It highlights Fairtrade's role in fostering agroecology and agroforestry, offering a minimum price and premium for forest conservation investments. The study suggests certification helps build multi-stakeholder partnerships and provides additional resources for EUDR compliance, such as geolocation techniques.

Planet Farms rinnova la linea di insalate FRESCAAH e PESTOOH

🍷 In Italy, the 2024 harvest is marked by high-quality grapes despite unstable weather and heavy rain, particularly in Northern Italy. Alto Adige's Cantina San Michele Appiano began harvesting in response to cooler temperatures, anticipating slightly below-average yields but excellent quality, according to Jakob Gasser. Franciacorta's Montina, led by Michele Bozza, reported a challenging year with lower production than 2023 but promising grape quality thanks to experienced viticulture and Simonit & Sirch pruning. In Colli Berici, Cà Rovere, managed by Marco Biasin, faced unstable weather, leading to more vineyard work but better grape quality and yield. The harvest started in late August with Chardonnay, with the introduction of smaller 20-25 kg grape boxes. Tuscany's Vallepicciola, under Alessandro Cellai, saw the harvest begin in late August with a 5-8% increase in yield over 2023, attributed to new vineyards. Ampeleia in Alta Maremma, overseen by Marco Tait, started harvesting on August 20, with the conclusion expected in mid-September, seeing beautiful grape evolution.
