🌱 116,699 "green" products in GDO shelves communicate sustainability through specific claims, generating €43.8 billion in sales, representing 92.1% of the packaged consumer goods business. In 2023, value sales rose by +9.3% annually despite a -4.5% drop in sold volumes. Sustainability analysis by Osservatorio Immagino expanded in 2023, in partnership with Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna di Pisa. Environmental sustainability leads, with 83.6% of green products featuring related claims, most notably in "cold" and "fresh" departments, and private labels and top 20 brands being most active. Packaging recyclability claims are on 54.5% of products, with a +13.3% value sales increase. Social sustainability appears on 11,650 products (8.4% of the total), generating €6.1 billion in sales, while animal welfare is a niche, with 2,803 products (2% of the total) accounting for €1.4 billion in sales.
